Essayist for limited edition book project, Untitled 2019, designed and created by WORK/PLAY
Untitled 2019 is a book project designed and created by St. Louis-based multimedia artist duo, WORK/PLAY. I was commissioned to contribute an original essay, titled To the Touch: Sound / Home / Love, An Essay, written exclusively for the book. Untitled 2019 is a collaborative work that includes additional photographic contributions from Maximiliano Cervantes, Jen Everett, Marcus Stabenow, and Chris Perron, in addition to an original poem written by Alyssa Knowling.

Resident poet for inaugural PSA: STL installation project, May our love be tender but with teeth
PSA: STL is public art site created by artists Marina Peng and Shannon Levin featuring rotating text installations by St. Louis artists, writers, and poets. For the project’s inaugural installation, I was invited to design the featured text and write an accompanying title and project statement. Exhibition catalogue essay, Finding the Garden: On Darker Gods and World-building Our Way to Freedom
Commissioned to write the opening essay, Finding the Garden: On Darker Gods and World-building Our Way to Freedom, featured in the exhibition catalogue for multidisciplinary artist Damon Davis’ highly-anticipated debut solo show, “Darker Gods in the Garden of the Low-Hanging Heavens.” The show was on view at The Luminary in St. Louis, Missouri during their summer 2018 exhibition season. Participant in “Mourning the Fourth: A Liberation Movement” photography series
“Mourning the Fourth: A Liberation Movement” is a photography series conceived, organized, and produced by photographer Kristen Trudo as part of her project, Radically Tender. The portrait series, presented on July 4, 2017, examines how people of color complicate an reimagine ideas of freedom, patriotism, history, and American-ness. The series also gathered responses to the questions, what does patriotism mean to you? and what does freedom mean to you? to accompany the portraits. For the full photo series, click here.
Kuumba Talks Guest Lecture: “Art as a method for change, Creation as a form of structural revolution”
Kuumba Talks is a community speaker series started at Washington University in St. Louis designed to celebrate the creativity, inventiveness, and change-making ideas of students on campus. Talks often have a socially-conscious lens, tackle humanitarian or environmental challenges, or explore an area of future innovation. My guest lecture, “Art as a method for change, Creation as a form of structural revolution,” explores the role of art in resistance and the power of creativity as an accessible entry point to enact change.
